I used to use my DRZ400 SM on the trails. I used to swap the wheels, exhaust and plastics. Theres no point rejetting just for a days trail riding, i didnt have any problems.

I must admit though that i brought the DRZ SM as a do it all bike but i didnt find it ideal on the trails. In my opinion, too heavy a bike, mainly because as a beginner i was picking it up alot. But secondly the suspension is far too hard, its set up for the road and its much too stiff

S model is good for green laning. I rate them because they are a true dual sport bike.

Heavy or not there is not much stuff that is good on the road and decent riding up a byway.
The DRZ is one of the best low maintaince trail bikes of recent years..

My WR is onto is second rebuilt now... My first DRZ done 45k without the engine being opened even..

Yeah I would have preferred The S model but this came up and it just needed to be had :p Plus I was a little too eager wanting to get back on the 'horse'.

Easy to look after, I don't actually think it's too heavy but then I haven't had to drag it out of some deep ass trench then I would believe it would be a mission lol. But I think as long you can handle the machine your on then you won't have to be dragging it over logs/trees and/or any other ruggedness that you need to tackle. As you can navigate around/over it whilst making the bike do all the work :p

You maybe better going for a FMF Q series silencer, which i used my own Suzuki's in the past there very quite easy to repack and can be ordered direct and there very well made.

I think I'm just going to keep an eye out for drz 400 breakings on ebay... am sure I can get one on the cheap from there. Just have to make sure it will fit. Same goes for the wheels that I need to get. Saves a few pences than buying new... only to get a bit scuffed, dented and what nots.

Let us know how you get on with it on the lanes. I returned my SM to road use only and use a WR250F for the trails now and find it loads better but thats just my opinion. All the best
