I wouldn't get a Husky if I were you

1) They don't make them any more

2) The parts are very expensive

3) You generally need to buy lots of parts

I speak as an ex-Husky owner...I had a brand-new TE610E and it broke down a lot. Shame, as it was 'just right' on paper.

This isn't my bike or anything to do with me, but well worth a read

but not for those of a sensitive disposition.

I dont think you can go wrong with the honda or yamaha, very simular bike, just buy the best one you can

I was looking at both but i brought a wr250f purely because a decent one came up locally

Two grand should get you an 06' CRF... The extra £500 should get you a minter... But bear in mind, if it ain't had stainless inlet valves put in, it WILL need them... Buyer beware and all that... Yup I have a crf250....

Had a CRF250X
Got a Husky TE310

CRF was a great bike
Peaky, almost 2-stroke power band. Lots of smiles.
No issue with standard, original titanium valves, just adjust them regularly (but I only did a couple of thousand miles a year)
Genuine Honda parts expensive, but lots of pattern parts available. Could do with a 6th gear. If you are riding very slowly in the summer, it will boil as there are no radiator fans.

Husky not quite as quick, loads more torque and easier to ride. Vibrates more. 2 years of faultless riding. As said, expensive parts, and not as much choice of where to buy.
Husky 6kgs heavier than CRF, but a lot lighter to ride. Getting from the Husky to a CRF feels like going back in time as the design is from around 2004 with little change (on the X model anyway).

The Yamaha LOOKS heavier than the CRF, but I don't know if it is significantly so.
Probably a torquier engine than the CRF. Need less maintenance.
Having ridden with Craig89, I can say that they are very capable machines.

At your price point, either the CRF or the WR depending on how you like twisting spanners.

Me? I'd have another CRF tomorrow. Great little bikes

Mike
(But I'd keep my Husky!)

Just been thru this. I borrowed a friend's WR250f for a day on the trails, very capable but surprisingly heavy which put me right off.
Wouldn't touch a Husky for reasons given. I went for a CRF250X which is fantastically light but I'm still adjusting to lack of low-end torque. A big contrast having come from a 400F.

I tried a CRF and didn't like it as it needed to be rev'd, which is not my style. I had a TE 250 for a year or so and liked it very much but like the CRF it felt like it was a competition bike not a trail bike. The TE dropped it guts and cost a lot to repair. Which was done properly and i sold it on.

For a BMW 450 which i love ( Its now broken and waiting for repair)

My advice would be don't go for a 250 competition derived bike if you want to go trailing. Lots of low down torque like a KTM 400, or a TTR, CRFL 250, Serov, KLX a DRZ or even dare i say it .......KTM 690 ( won't fit your budget i know) its a bit heavy and i never need the full throttle except on the motorway.

Make sure you do the 'ccc' mods ( cut airbox top and up- jet it) makes a HUGE difference to the bottom end... Like, night and day.

Does this affect fuel consumption?
What tank range do you get with mods done?

cheers
