Hey all,

My new (to me) wr250f came with a horn that hardly worked (was very silent), was looking tatty so I replaced with a cheapo halfords job.

Problem is, the horn still doesn't work (it does when I connect it straight to the battery).

I believe the horn is running on the same circuit as the headlight, which I've since read up is AC - the horn I have is DC, so I guess that is my issue.

Just wondering what the best approach is? Get an AC horn, or wire it into a DC circuit?

I'm rather useless at electronics, but can anyone suggest how I can wire this up (I guess I would rather keep the DC horn...)

Cheers
Nick

Nick,

You could wire the new horn via a fuse to the battery with a fresh switch but by far the simplest way is to get an AC horn.

I have recently just done this exact job on my wr250f. I used a feed from the battery, into a relay that is switched from the ignition, through a switch.

Pretty straight forward but I'm an electrician. An AC horn is the easiest option if you can get one

You can fit a diode in the positive wire which will let an AC supply run a DC horn, quite cheap from Maplins for example.
just fit the right way around its like a one way valve for electricity  Had it on my DR350 with no battery
