Hi, I am looking to buy a single bike trailer. My preference is for a collapsible trailer due to space constraints.
I have seen a used trailer for sale, but I am advised by the vendor that it does not have a VIN/chassis no. plate am I correct in thinking that this is a legal requirement for a trailer? other than that it looks to be well made and in good condition.
Cheers
Stu

I was looking for a single bike trailer but found this instead only £79 if you have a tow bar

http://www.davecooper.co.uk/motorbike_racks.asp

Rated to 130 Kg so depends how heavy your bike is

Not for a light trailer mate...trust me, I'm a road transport journalist in real life!

i thought about getting one of these but the tow bar on my car is only rated at i think its less than 70kg so didn't want to risk my pride and joy falling off. but if your car can take it its much better than faffing about with a trailer

It is very hard to lift (and control) a dirt bike into these racks unless you have a 'helping hand' available (especially when knackered after a full day laning) but they are great in that they are removeable and store easily leaving just the 'bolted on bit' fastened to the car.

Good luck

Ian

If you have a type approved tow-bar - which you must have if you wish to tow a trailer in Europe there will be an S rating in kg on the label - this is the maximum nose load that can be applied to the tow-bar

Check it out

Agreed but I only go out with company so never on my own so lifting tends not to be a problem

I have a Dave Cooper collapsible trailer Stu,and no plates on it.
Very useful trailer, as it takes fifteen minutes to put together with six bolts.
Stores away nicely, and you can put it safely in the car when you park up and ride.

If you go down the bike rack route, just make sure you check the nose weight in your cars handbook.
Unless its a van or a big 4x4,its usually not suitable.
A struggle getting them in and out as well, unless you have a little ramp.
Been there, done that.

Check with Mike as well as I think he has a couple of trailers for sale, which you might be able to adapt too suit your requirements.

As regards the plate, I think it is legal in the UK without a plate but it is not on the continent.
The best collapsible trailer is a Motolug, which unfortunately I don't have, others are OK but take longer to assemble and even longer to load the bike, can be done on youown but easier with 2.
