Sorry folks but I am getting worried about this post. Whilst I am sure that we all want to help out, we are talking about the prime safety system and I think, with due respect, that our friend is in a bit beyond his mechanical knowledge and experience.

If you can bring the bike to Romiley I will gladly help you through the repair, alternatively could somebody local go around and guide him. You can not mess about with the braking system.

I think Romiley is a bit too far to travel Hugh, but thanks very much for the offer of assistance. In an attempt to put your mind at ease I'll not be riding the bike with anything on the brake not working correctly, I'm going to plough on and if it ain't right there's a bike garage over the road,I may have to admit defeat which is rather embarrassing seen as my old man has the ability to do engine rebuilds from the ground up and I've got a front brake that is not paying ball which may win the battle

After sitting down with a cup of tea and thinking about it I come to the realization that new brake pads may be the solution as one of the piston had been sticking I had a look at the pad thickness with a micrometer and there was half a mm difference between the front and the back of the pad. New pads in and its working sound!

Thanks for everyone's help, got there in the end and learned something new!
