Remap
13tooth cog
FMS exhaust

around £600?

Interested in reviews of what it has done to improve meanwhile bike seems fine as is.

Thanks for the update post Mario.

Could I ask which one you got the risers from, as they seem a first item to have and will need to be specific.

I too was looking at the FMF items!!!! Only thing is I would still want a quiet exhaust.....as you otehr thread, but I did not check teh DB of teh FMF if it was stated.

The local Honda dealers here are just normal Hondas, so teh official off road link will help. There is nothing listed in accessories on teh official Honda UK website for the L apart from a mat and gazebo!!

The bar risers and all work done was by viewtopic.php?f=83&t=9541 who are hard core off road mx as well as an official honda dealer.

Can you check out the US modifications and price them and lets see if we can get a UK supplier/alternative with a special TRF price?

For commercial reasons I have transferred info on our recommended suppliers and discounts out of the public section and into the members section here

I have no idea if the ones you fitted on the X version will fit teh L version, likewise I have know idea where to get them from.

I guess dirt bikes would be a place for me to start looking for bits.

So pointers in all directions for accessories and mods will be appreciated.

Got the one inch up one/half inch forward from The USA off ebay (Nowhere else did them) They make the bike a lot less cramped......The others were just Vegas 30mm risers....

Looking at the stage 1 fmf power kit and looks like they do two end cans one with db killer one without hope someone in UK does them!
In the meantime will maybe just put 13tooth sprocket on for the sake of £10.
Can't wait to pick mine up. Also there's not a great choice of racks yet in UK.

Except from an article scheduled for trail by Martin Whittington

On my first ride on the road en route to a byway it felt well planted to the tarmac with excellent grip from the trials type tyres and that the Engine was very quiet but needed lots of work with the gearbox to keep it buzzing. As I entered the muddy and deep tractor rutted lane it was clear the tyres were not able to provide stabilty and traction and even tho the engine pulled from low down it didnt make for exctiement. Time for some mods, First thing was to shed some weight so off with the huge no plate and light unit , next the massive exhaust system and , tool box and indicators were next then the horrible standard bars and levers , On with a tiny polisport led tail piece, a modified Pro- circuit exhaust and front pipe and a Pro taper handle bar set with shorty crf levers.Acrebis hand guards and a nice fabricated alloy bash guard. To help with the off road handling and gearing the OE tyres with changed to Michelin AC 10s and the rear 40 tooth sprocket changed to a 46 with a DID chain . Next I removed the fine mesh from the Air filter and modified the Air box with a 20mm hole saw. I tested my efforts but felt there was more to come. So after sending a fistfull of dollars to Dual Sport Bikes in the USA the postman delivered my Fuel Controller gadget which was duly wired up then secreted under the seat, yippee back to the lanes and the off road handling much better, throttle responce inproved considerably and the Engine pulls and sounds much better.

Anyone interested if I arrange for a dyno test of Martins vs mine stock out the box?

I am not really interested in dyno figures.

What I am interested in is the modifications to make it a better bike capable of on and off tarmac.

Listing the precise parts used and where to get them from and listing the effect on teh bike is important to me.

For me someone saying change bars and risers just leads to confusion - which ones and from where. Which CRF levers, which tail piece etc.

Somehere there is a line that says if I want to modify it that much I might just have well bought a KTM, but agree some things are needed to make it more comfortable on teh trails and more able, so tyres and bars and risers would be first. Then some protection such as guards. then less things to brake such as levers and gear lever, nobody has mentioned brake lever yet?

then shed a few pounds in weight.

I am liking this thread, but have never modified a trail bike so have no idea about off road parts and suppliers.

I think you need a KTM red :D You could probably get a nice recent 250EXC for the money you might end up spending.
There was an immaculate 2010 400 for £3400 but that sold in 20 seconds.

That's the problem with a firm selling a bike without thinking about it's use - or thinking hard about flogging extras.
I would do the serious sums before committing.
