I just carry a bunch of spare bolts nuts and washers of usual sizes - the guy was riding on one of our fundays and came to a grinding halt - I'm not sure of the reason for this strange set up on the Serrow -any ideas?

In fact compared to many riders I seem to be a travelling spares dept :D - I even had a spare clutch lever for a guy who was on a run a while back (can't remember what bike he had but the XR250 lever worked) - never got it back though  .

Some people that I know rely solely on their breakdown company to get them out of trouble if their riding companions have been unable to help him/her.

Drowned bikes.

First, DO NOT start the bike or try to, all sorts of damage can be caused

Take the air filter out and wring it out
Take the plug out and clean it
Lift the front wheel up so the bike is virtical and allow the water to drain out of the exhaust Then put the bike back down
Dry out the airbox
Now for the heavy bit. put the bike upsidedown
Put the bike in top gear and rotate the rear wheel (in the way the weel would rotate if the bike were moving). DO this for several roations to ensure all the water is out
Put the bike back on its wheels, replace the plug and filter, covers etc.
Kick the bike up / use the girly electric start (sorry ladies)
If the bike fails to start it will need towing and jump starting

For those of you who have been up to the north east you will probably be familiar with this
   ;)

In 10 years of Serow ownership, I've not experienced this. However, we did put a heavier duty chain and renthall sprockets on it (520 chain?). I must admit that I haven't been out much lately. :(

Know the feeling Polly - I haven't been able to get my bike running for months so I haven't been out either.

Breakdown reason -as yet unknown.

good point steve  - haven't really tried at all yet - i'll get the LAF presentation out the way then 'project XR' is go,

was thinking of putting a little petrol direct through the spark plug hole to check the spark is OK and that it will fire up ( goodish spark when cranking the engine with the plug grounded) - anyone got any experience of doing this - how much petrol should I put in?
