Gents

seen loads of posts on here relating to what bikes ect, Ive got a road reg CR500 and am hoping to get out on the lanes soon. My only concern is the noise, the last thing I want to do is offend anyone with my smoke n noise. Obviously the bike isnt going to be sold however would appreciate your views. Sailed through MOT with the Pro Circuit exhaust and end can, so hope this should be OK for lanning??

Cheers, Dan :?

Well, it wouldn't be my choice as a trail bike...

However, there are a number of steps you can take to quiet it further.

Exhaust bandage on the expansion chamber cuts down resonance and will actually increase (not that you need to) power, and stop your boots and trousers from melting.

Make sure the silencer has fresh exhaust packing, and is not packed too tight. Clean the perforated baffle.

Examine the bike carefully while someone else blips the throttle, Look for components such as springs etc that resonate at certain rpms. You can stop them doing this by cladding them with lengths of flexible hose etc. This will actually help them to last longer, as they will not suffer from fatigue.

And lastly don't rev the thing too hard: it should be able to tackle just about any trail on the pilot jet, when it won't be much noisier than any other bike.

Hi
you may want to do some research on HM's CRE500. The Italian honda importers built them as fully road legal enduro/supermoto bikes. They changed a fair bit on the bikes including silencers, stators and flywheels to mellow them. I have a 125 and it's by far and away the quietest bike of got at trail speeds.
If you google HM CRE500 2 temps or 2 stroke you'll hopefully exclude searching for the latest 4 stroke version.

Cheers, Rob

I don't think there's many trails where you'll get the 500 on the pipe anyway!!

Consider induction noise as well.

Making sure airbox is to OEM spec and consider sealing any gaps with silicone.

Some stick on sound proofing may help on the inside of the airbox

seal all the exhaust joints with high temp silicone.
