Post subject:  Kawasaki KLX250?

Hello all,

I'm hoping to get into trail riding this year, so am looking for a suitable bike. I think a 250 4-stroke is what I'm looking for - was thinking about a wr or crf 250, but was wondering if a KLX 250 would be a suitable trail bike for a newbie?

Any opinions?

Thanks in advance.
Nigel.

A guy in our group has a KLX250 and loves it. It goes everywhere the KTM/Enduro bikes go and has barely seen a spanner in 6K miles. Slightly under-powered on the roads but not desperately so.

I started trail riding on a '94 KLX 250 e start and cv carb.
Having ridden big roads bikes for 20+ years prior to this I can say that I never regretted getting the KLX. (still own it with others)
It's soft power allowed it to get grip where many enduro bikes could not and I would get to the top of climbs without having to push and pull my way up. I was knackered enough just hanging onto it so this was a real blessing.

KLX seem a decent machine. Not many proper Trail bikes left now.

The Klx is a great trail bike. My 2012 model has covered 4000mls with no problems. Just the usual oil and filter change. I did Austin Vince's (the vince) navigational event on it this year and off road the bike was great its relaxed power delivery made for easy riding and the bike went everywhere. This is a simple old skool style trail bike something I feel has been overlooked in the last few years with these more race orientated trail bikes which are a big expense.

Anyway THE Vince navigational event is a quality event. Great people, great riding and a fantastic host.

Norfolk Ghost Riders will aim to come last next year.
