Morning gents..

What do we think to the KTM 125 EXC?
Im fancying a change from my wr.
Whats it like torque wise? (obviously not a grate deal being a 125)
Are they a good bike to modify? (i like to tinker)

And any other bikes i should consider?

Cheers.

It's a full-on racer: not really suitable for green laning when compared even to a 200cc stroker.

It will wear itself, and you, out quite quickly.

If you are set on going back to a 125 cc 2T, there are many better, cheaper trail bikes.

Most people who race 125s in enduros only ride them because of age constraints: 200cc strokers (including KTM's own) are far better.

No disrespect to KTM: the 125 is very good of its kind, but it's the kind of bike not many would choose.

Re age and KTM 125..

If choosing a 125 is for 33bhp limit bear in mind that this includes a power to weight limit as well.

A KTM 125 exceeds this power to weight limit.

I remember reading that it exceeds 33bhp as well - around 37bhp as I recall.

A derestricted 125cc stroker is a good way to go providing it's a trailbike.

Husqvarna WRE 125 is a good choice. Lower state of tune than a enduro bike. Quiet and it rides very light too.

Good article in TBM this month about the gas gas randonne 125. It's a 4t (unfortunately), seems ideal if you want a learner legal bike purely for lanes.

Take a look at the results for tough forest enduro's. You will see that a lot of the championship & experts riders (the quick people) use a 125. 125's are brilliant bikes on very tight woods. They have the least weight so can easily be pulled from sticky situations. But as a trail bike its a small size engine for the amount of road work involved.

It's a case of horses for courses. A 125 2 stroke up against a 450 4 stroke on a mx track would be blown out of the water by the 450 but put the 450 4t in a forest enduro and it would be very hard work trying to keep up with the 125 2t.

For trail riding the 125 is not the best tool because of the road work. Get it on the trails and you have a real tool that wont rip the ground up like a heavy 4t.

Cheers for all the replys gents.
Ive got a 125 at the min and its fine on the roads.
As for derestricting it, its got an after market exhaust amd different chain and sprockets but apart from that theres not much you can do with my bike, apart from big boreing it but thats a different story.

37bhp from a 125... How do they manage that?
I dont need it to be a hyped up comp bike, just something that does the job on the lanes around castleton and the rest.

Ill just have to keep my eyes open and see what comes up..
Can anyone suggest a dealer around sheffield way?

Cheers

2 Stroke's produce roughly double the power out put of a 4 stroke.

I did have an old Aprilia Tuareg Rally 125.

Bonkers looking paris dakar replica type thing.

Quite capable as a trailbike though. First week I got it I rode it from Brighton to Kings Lynn - avoiding motorways as I was on L plates

Aprilia made quite a few different 125 2t trailbikes. Strong, reliable engines if looked after. All are autolube. Plenty of spares out there.

125's can cope with roadwork providing you've the right mindset for doing tarmac on them.

Whilst a 125 2t may achieve 70mph plus on the tarmac it's best to travel at 50-60mph. Remember to vary the throttle as this provides the lubrication to the engine - even on an autolube.
