Post subject:  Can we ride on these routes?

Hi all

I'm just doing some research and not quite sure if these are ok to ride on.

If I'm reading these right the os key shows them as in finished tracks/roads.

Any ideas?

ThanksImage

There is nothing in the photo that has vehicle rights as far as I can see.

Other roads drives or tracks, (and in this case unfenced) as shown on OS maps, do not show any legalities of use. The map only shows their presence.
Most are private estate and forestry roads, so not legal. However some are, but the only way of finding out is on a road by road basis with the local authority. (or ask the TRF who have already done this!)

First pic is typical of the way OS depicts tracks going across unfenced common land. In my experience, when they are unsurfaced, most highways records of the LOS tend to stop at the edge of the common. It really will be a visit to the council offices to ask to see the list of streets or even the adoption map (which will probably be archived).
All is not lost though, it depends how the routes were categorised by the LA on adoption; down our way, we were lucky that Radnorshire classified roads down to 'F'' status and many of them appear like the above.
Ignore above if you have commoners rights for land in question.
Default position is a no-go without further research.
