Has anyone had the need to try the trick of using a capacitor (10,000uF 25V) instead of a battery when it has failed or gone flat when on the trial for EFI machines, in my case a KTM although i guess it could work on other EFI bikes with kick start

The idea is that when you kick the bike on the kick start this generate a voltage into the capacitor that is then able to power the ECU and fuel pump long enough to allow the bike to fire up, the capacitor also completes the electrical circuit for the bike. As disconnecting the battery on my KTM stops the bike if the engine is running.

No not tried, but a few kicks is not going to create much charge in the cap. With out knowing how much current the fuel pump and ECU draw you might not ever get to the voltage need for the electronics to function. The cap discharging as fast as you kick energy into it.
Also some alternators have the rotor as a coil which needs voltage to create the magnetic field to excite the stator coils. For this type without a battery alternators not going to create anything to charge the cap.

Think it would be a slim chance of it working unless the system was designed to do that.

How about packing one of those rechargeable battery packs which are small but powerful enough to jump a car?
