5000 members @ £40 each = £200,000
Total cost of cards approx = £2,000
Hmmmm.....
Quoting cost cutting as an excuse for not issuing them is poor on the part of the TRF membership.
By all means, get someone to come up with a PDF option that we can show to people on our respective smart phones, like a CPD certificate etc. THEN.....we have a viable alternative.
Give us choice, not restrictions.

Do a survey of members before making decisions like this. Democracy and all that.

For all the "good" that the TRF does, if it forgets its members it will reap what it sows in time.

Agree entirely - reduction in member benefits will sour the membership

However I have been told that the membership card issue is being looked at
As is Trail mag
As is the dated TRF sticker

Our group Hereford still hasn't got its own section on the forum.
We will be voting on a closed group fb page at the next meeting, which will be trf members only.
The watts app will be open to all to join and once we see thier membership proof they will be allowed access to fb.
Shame really as would much rather see our group on this forum.
Anyway I will let the members decide.

Without the visible support of the directors and the continuing lack of perceived progress, this members benefit (arguably worth a hell of a lot more than membership cards and stickers) if lost, will be hugely to the detriment of the overall membership and lead to mass fragmentation.
If you run it down, obviously less people will view it and it disappears without trace due to lack of use.

This used to be a buzzing and thriving place to exchange TRF views, ideas and information........ :(

Ramblers 10M income 100k members (£100/member), BHS 10M income 90k members (£111/member), CTC/Cycling UK £4M income 50k members (£80/member), TRF 200k income 5k members (£40/member)

From this you can see we would seem to have the lowest total income and lowest income per member - which may help explain why cost control is important.

Just to remind every member that you have the choice of requesting a new card from membership@trf.org.uk at any time without any restrictions.

A recent survey of one of the largest TRF groups done to assist the local groups response to the Membership Directors consultation on membership cards showed 10:1 in favour of this waste reduction approach.

Hi David

If you look at the previous Group Chairs Newsletter you will see reports on progress on the Forum and you have already been informed the Directors are continuing to invest. I will advise you if that situation changes.

The wider situation of ALL internet users preferring other forms of communication and social media other than forums is largely outside of the TRF's control.

Meanwhile I have received many comments from several individual members over a few years that the main factors of those who are prepared to used the forum - preferring to use it is perceived negativity and forum spats putting them off being regular visitors.

May I suggest to improve this that you email directors@ for a response on any issues that may be perceived as off putting to a many potential forum users ?

Thanks Mario and I am pleased to read about the progress but may I make a couple of observations.

By calling them Group Chair Newsletters it implies to me and maybe any others that it is not for general consumption even though it is on the open forum and I haven't tended to read them but they are actually quite interesting. Maybe calling it a Members Bulletin or somesuch might widen the reading of it. It's not really the sort of stuff that might go in a future version of Trail either, I suspect.

Secondly, is not a lot of the content the sort of information that gets moderated out of the forum by the directors? An emailed version may be more secure?

Some subjects are of interest to the wider membership so keeping it to one member and one director seems over secretive at times.

The perceived negativity often comes from a frustration that getting out to everyone can be difficult. That is why I still believe most strongly that a national forum is essential to the future cohesiveness of the TRF.
