This could open things up a bit. :)

My nephew and I have got management approval for a weekend's riding (both TRF members). We may open it up to others in the Sussex group depending on arrangements. Also looking for a recommended guide for, say, all day Saturday and up to 2.00pm Sunday, maybe a short run late Friday pm depending on travel distance. Accommodation can be bunkhouse, pub or b&b.

As most of you know, I am both old and a crap trail rider so nothing too technical or cramming 200 miles into a day but good enough for fun and entertainment.
I am not too embarrassed to detour round a tricky lane and meet the rest at the other end so i don't spoil things.

We have been to North Wales (Barmouth and Knighton etc) a couple of times and could look at going back again but maybe somewhere different. Some of the riding was a bit tough for me to be honest.
What is left of the Peaks has a draw to it....ride it before it goes?

Ideally within, say, around 6 hours of the East Sussex coast (so say 4 hours ish from London so we can get round the M25 on a Friday morning).

No dates fixed yet but Simon will have to work round his wife and two kids. I'm a bit more flexible and will be virtually retired at the end of March.
Thoughts and suggestions gratefully received?

More than happy to show you some Herts, Cambs and Essex lanes.

Do you have any dates in mind? Thetford is also an option.

Hi Paul
Thanks for the offer - I should have said that Mike Irving took us on a great day out round his patch and into Thetford last year so we are looking to take advantage of going a tad further afield this time. Maybe a day out at some point would be a great idea though.....food for thought.
Similarly, Kent and Surrey are obviously a bit too local.

Date is vague, to say the least, at the moment.

West Dorset/Devon?

Many years ago I had a fantastic ride around West Dorset led by a bloke called Dave Greenwood from the Dorset TRF. I don't know how many lanes survived NERC, but it was great fun.

Devon is chock full of lanes.

Also, Wiltshire is an obvious choice. Most of the lanes are very well signed and easy to pick out on the OS map too, so you can easily draw up your own route.

Thanks Richard

Dorset/Devon was on my radar so useful suggestion.

Wiltshire is on the cusp of a long day out for us but has potential for the variation of Salisbury plain and the normal lanes over a weekend.

No problem,

If you fancy a day out riding the Essex lanes just let me know.

Thanks - that may well be a good day trip for the Sussex group. :)

We go to south Molton in North Devon for a great weekend. Pub we use is very biker friendly. Great routes up to Lynmouth and to Ilfracombe. Well worth it.

Other option is Rhayader.

Form the south coast I would be heading over to France, great food, great trail riding, not to many restrictions and everybody glad to see ya and help out.
If your set on the UK, I'd be heading down the West country, or maybe do the Wales North to South routes, means carrying your gear though, more suited to Adv bikes.

Thanks - although I get free accommodation in Bideford as my mate lives there ;) - he's a road rider though.
