I sold my WR a few months ago to help with moving house and am now in a position to buy an other bike . Thing is I've had a 2005 WR450 and loved it however I like the look of the KTM. Just would like to know everyones oppinions on these two bikes for green lane riding, maintainance, expense, reliability etc etc

Sounds like a stupid question but how many of you take your bike in a van or on a trailer to the lanes? As I found with my WR that on a long road ride it felt like I was thrashing her nearly flat out and obviously a lot of wear and tear etc.

KTM's back up is very good. No problems getting spares (even for older bikes). Prices good too. I found Yamaha back up poor and expensive.

Really? Surprised you found Yamaha's back up poor...I guess it depends on where u go though

I have a £4k budget max, am hoping for an '06 onwards in mint condition. What do you mean by "back up?"

Sorry I'm not really a husky fan just torn between the Yam and KTM.

Go for the KTM. It has a 6 speed box on the 4 strokes and makes road work a breeze compared to a 5 speed box on a WR.

KTM do a full range of bikes to suit everyone 2 and 4 stroke no other manufacturer does that..

Good point with the 6 speed box, have read plenty reviews and they seem as good if not better than the Yamaha. Think I'll look for a KTM thanks for the quick replies.

By back up I mean spares availability (new, secondhand and aftermarket) and dealers.
