After some advice please. I have just bought a Garmin gps60, cheap off of eBay.
It's got no maps installed and I was wondering if anyone could suggest the best place to buy OS map downloads or are there any free maps ?
Cheers
Andy

I'm not sure you can load OS maps on to the GPS60.....but I'll stand to be corrected.

From memory all you can do is load a track that's been created on some mapping software e.g. Memorymap, and simply follow the black line on screen, it works but there's better satnavs for trail riding available. Have a look at Satmap 10 or 12, or GPS62, there are others but these are the only two that I've had experience with.

God luck.....it's a bit of a mine field.

Just to fill in some gaps. I too am fairly certain that you cannot get Garmin OS type mapping(GB Discovery) to work on the gps60.
As has been said you will need to draw tracks using different software such as memory map or transfer tracks you have aquired from your pc to the gps.
Rides that you go on can also be saved into the gps memory and you can follow these.
As far as mapping goes you do have some alternatives. City Navigator will work if you want on road routing. Off tarmac roads the screen will mainly be blank.
Garmin Topo, will show some tracks and paths along with roads. In my opinion this is your best option. You will be able to see where you are turning off roads onto tracks. Open sourced mapping is also available it will have roads and rivers etc. as well as some features. This can be free but I think a £10 donation is expected by Toastmuncher who I think did all the leg work on it. Do a search on google to get a link.

Hi Andy

It has been a few years since I ran the GPS60 but I am fairly sure I got it working.

I found it a great unit and no big advantage in moving to the 62 or 64

Set up was not straightforward - something to do with naming sub directories from memory - so best done in person or by post.

If you still want help give me a call from Weds onwards and we can discuss your unit and how best to help you.
