Yeah f**k all that 'off site' stuff....the game is on,you just have to make them give up,unfortunately...they will, they are dicks.THey have been for my bike twice...I scored a hammer last time....

Yeah right, make them give up?

Good luck with that, they have nothing better to do, they lay in bed all day & dream up plans to steal your stuff at night
Their vocation is stealing your stuff

They won't give up

Security is the answer, but not letting them know what you've got is better

Unfortunately for Rod he's not far from where the thieves den is, so they don't have to even travel more than a mile or two

I feel sorry Rod is going through this aggro as he's a grand fella

They gave up trying to nick mine...we had fences lifted (now secured) and no way to access my bike without a major work party, and yes where I live is a thieves den,it's called Manchester...I ain't moving and neither is my bike.

Probably one of the most effective professional security devices around today, no idea what they cost new although I recall seeing some on Ebay a few years ago.

example at 38seconds https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9AlQYgT8g6o

There's a huge gap in the market for smaller home/DIY version

Wouldn't it be a shame if someone like Rod bought an old 250cc MX bike, took the brake pads out for inspection, accidentally misaligned the rear wheel and forgetfully lubricated the throttle cable with chain lube which made it very sticky, and then forgot to put it away in the garage one night?

It would be a great shame if a bike like that got stolen...

Hi there,

Rod, from my own experience, having your bikes stolen is crappy and painful to say the least, let alone having the arseholes try a second time.

After reading this thread, you may be interested to know where your TT600RE ended up.

I've been into bikes, especially green laning and trials riding, my entire life. I bought the TT600RE from Copart as an insurance write-off, so when its ready, I can join my wife on the green lanes again (she has a little KLX125). The TT600RE was in a sorry state with no ignition barrel, missing wheels spacers, horribly (and soul destroyingly) painted black and the VIN ground off the frame (although the idiot low lifes left the VIN plate). We're in the process of trying to restore it to some of its former glory.

I googled the bike as I was keen to know some of its history and have always been begrudgingly curious as to where my stolen bikes ended up and therefore thought the original owner may be too.

I understand completely if you're not interested and would rather let sleeping dogs lie but if you are keen to get in touch, I would always be interested to hear about its history with you.

Kind Regards

Anthony

Hi Anthony, I hope you get as much pleasure out of the bike as previously did.
I would love to think you paid very little for the bike, as my dealings with the insurance company were not very pleasant and they wanted silly money for me to retain the bike £630 if I recall,, I offered £400 but they turned it down.
The bike was owned by me from new 17,000 miles all standard and not messed with regularly serviced, seat recovered to make more comfortable and front and back suspension overhauled about 2 years back.
Although the bike is heavy I found it capable, and rode trails from the Peak District to the Scottish Borders on it, and with the big tank etc. was ideal for multi day trips.

I did see the bike before it went to auction, so be AWARE....the back wheel [purple anodised] that was in the bike was actually a spare wheel [stolen at the same time] for my TTR250 originally from a 1994 TTR250 OE. and the rim is in a poor state if I recall correctly.

Best of luck with it.
Cheers
Rod

Thank you for the information Rod
It was fairly cheap to be honest, the auction finished just before xmas so i dont think to many people were bidding and the ground off frame numbers put a lot of people off.

I noticed the rear wheel was a little questionable. It wasn't fitted correctly, the rear disc has been damaged where the spacer wasn't fitted. Apart from that the bike seems to run well, a little temperamental from a cold start but no worse than my old Honda Dominators i used to have. I've been using it for some trips to work this week to see how it rides and I'm getting used to the weight of it and the rather lazy engine feel, but all is going well so far and it certainly puts a smile on my face. I look forward to some muddy fun soon. I'll get some pictures up of its current stage of restoration when i get a minute. I've been looking to get another rear wheel but so far the purple one works ok.

Thank you,

Ant

The original back wheel had a cush drive rubbers included, you are very lucky the TTR250 wheel fits and lines up.

Starting was never an issue....full choke from cold and just a touch of throttle and soon needs the choke in.

It is a twin carb set up....runs on 1 initially then the 2nd comes in at higher revs.

Having commented on your recent re-visit by the local scum, no one was more supris d than me as I lay on the settee snoozing at 6.30 this evening...I heard a noise in our tiny back yard....needless to say I went out to see two Rat Boys (full hoodie pricks) launching themselves back over the neighbours fence, which at 6 ft and with no shoes on in the pissing rain I elected to shout 'and you'd better F*****g not come back!' Funnily one of them had discovered the countless three inch nails battoned point upwards on the neighbours waney lap...it slowed him down considerably....which was nice...anyway, you ain't on your own Rod...and these pricks were brazen as f**k!....but ultimately unprepared for my Fort Knox like 'shed' vault....and if they do eventually get the door open, more disapointment awaits inside....better bring the cutting torch lads....and I don't think they had a 'with bike' exit plan...as all the gates are padlocked and secure, and the fences caused them problems without my bike....ha,ha...three nil to me ...tits ! Xx
