Try kicking when you've got your left foot in a rut, on a steep hill, when you've stapled or if you're less than about 5'10 tall. It's not worth the hassle IMHO. Horses for courses One of my bikes has an electric start & the other doesn't I never give kick starting another thought - it just works & the XR 400 is such an easy bike to start anyway |

There is a reason why xr400's with a Leccy leg add half a 'bag' to their value. |

You might as well just be a hero mate and go all out lights out...CR500. There is a road registered one on ebay...The DRZ is a good bike but the CR500 is a Riot.... |

I do like the idea of the xr 400, like the simplicity of them, with no radiator and starter system to fail. I can imagine kick starts have their moments but it won't put me off. So how often are you adjusting valves? You've all been a big help, I think now I'll keep a eye out and hope something comes up nearby. Oh and I'd love a cr 500 they're a rare thing now |

Valves are every 1000-2000 miles on XR400 But really easy to do & hardly go out of spec Keep the air filter clean Use quality oil & you're good for 30-40,000 miles Kick starting is much over played by loads of people who usually can't do it XR 's have auto & manual decompressors so starting is a cinch 20 years ago there weren't many trail bikes with electric start - so we had to make do |

That sounds brilliant, they sound like the cg 125 of the trail world if that makes sense. I never had any bother kicking my crm off so sure I'll be fine. Just need to find a good one now, but nice to find a pampered one with powdercoated frame etc |

Looks nice that Johnny, do they gain electric starts the newer ones? Or was it a optional extra |

Or was it a optional extra Nope never had electric starts - mine is one of the last made Some people mod their XR 400 & fit the cases from a TRX 400 farm quad to fit the electric start - somebody was selling kits, back in the day but they were £1000 For trail riding, I prefer a trail bike personally & something quiet and reliable My other trail bike is this Attachment: ImageUploadedByTapatalk1464510175.024958.jpg [ 587.74 KiB | Viewed 8458 times ] Another good green lane bike, plus has electric start XR 400 has a better chassis and power than the Suzuki and is lighter too If I was buying a new bike this week, I'd opt for a new 2t Beta 300 XTrainer & fit the kickstart kit to it The XTrainer is a modern day CRM or KDX and super for Laning |
