That Acerbis one, is what I use, seems fine, although I did wreck one last year, but that was after looping the bike off the top of a sand dune

I've decided to upgrade the rear light on my Mk3 Pampera to LED, and rather than just replace the light fitting I think it makes more sense to buy a complete universal light/number plate unit. There seem to be quite a few available, by the likes of RFX, Acerbis, UFO, Polisport, Ardi-Star - some have a specific clear lens portion to light the number plate while others don't. But I've read that this isn't an MOT requirement - can anyone confirm? Has anyone done this, and if so got any recommendations on what's a good buy, and what to look out for? |

I use the rfx one commonly obtainable for around £18 Generally speaking the tail seems to get impacted from stones and on stock plates from the wheel touching the number plate occasionally and ripping it off The rfx design is cheap, minimalist and almost horizontal giving low area to get hit and more clearance than vertical type designs I also double number plate with a small plate mounted under a near full size plate designed to take a full size font on a slightly smaller plate Can't confirm on MOT other than I only take my bike to a sensible Mot'er who is more concerned with the main safety items and maintenance. I often take the no lights fitted option at time of rest if there is any doubt over legality on one of my bikes with retrofitted lights |

useful information, thanks Mario. I'm quite keen to avoid the 'almost horizontal' look as it's a bit out of character for the Pampera (though I appreciate your comments about the increased clearance), I've seen a few that are more vertical such as this Acerbis one http://www.motoxmatrix.co.uk/new-acerbi ... 5315-p.asp albeit for more money (£36) |

finally a picture - this is the Acerbis LED 30 Taillight, costs best part of 40 quid, I think the "30" refers to the angle of the section holding the numberplate, it's a lot closer to vertical than some of the (cheaper, around 20 quid) LED offerings from RFX for example. I'm quite pleased with it; the number plate section was longer than I needed so I cut a bit off. It feels pretty strong and sturdy.
