I have a 2010 KLX250 (fuel injection ) and for some reason it has suddenly decided it will not start when warm. After the last ride out it was missing a bit at low revs and would easily stall when pulling away. When i got home I cleaned and oiled the air filter and put in a new CR8E iridium plug.Since then It has been a pain to start when warm. The bike only has 5500 miles on it so I don,t think it is tight valve clearance.I am going to change the plug back to a standard CR8E.Other than that any ideas out there.
Cheers

Valves.... Classic symptom..they probably need a re-shim... Not a massive job.... But worth doing yourself , basic tools/feeler gauge...

I tried to start the bike this morning and it barely started.I checked the battery and it was only 11.5 V .Perhaps the KLX requires a full battery charge even when it is warm.I have put the battery on charge and will then check if it holds a charge. The bike has only done 5500 miles so I will be surprised if the battery is knackered already.

You seem very surprised that stuff doesn't work after 5000 miles... Don't get a KTM ! I still say it's the valves... It starts with bad hot starting, and very soon turns into no starting (hot or cold)... I would bet my arse it needs shimming..:http://www.planetklx.org/techtips/valves.html
Every 500 miles on a valve check, according to this link.

I would also check the valves, at least then you can rule them out. 5500 miles isnt exactly fresh either. These bikes are not like cars that will do 100000+ miles without being touched. If you have the bike stood for any periods of time then the battery may have deteriated

Greetings,

As suggested by colleagues I would first check the basics such as valve clearances; the alignment of petrol pies; cleanliness of fuel filters - at the pump in the tank also the tiny one normally situated in the injector. Fully recharge and test the battery.

Have you listened to the petrol pump as you switch the ignition on :?: You might need to check the petrol line pressure both cold and then hot as there could be a vapour lock when the engine is hot

It is normally possible to clean an injector in a home workshop, by attaching a PP3 9V battery across the terminals to 'open' the pintle; then place the injector up to its terminal block into a sonic cleaner or simply spray carb cleaner through it to try and remove any tarnish which could prevent the pintle operating properly. If this method does not work then take the injector to a PI specialist or Kawasaki dealer for full testing. I used to use a product made by ASNU, see if there is a specialist having that equipment in your area.

Iridium spark plugs will not cure another problem per se but they will operate at lower cranking voltages such as starting. I always fit them to my bikes as they offer superior performance with less chance of fouling.

Hope these ideas help, ask again if you are still having problems and do n't forget to tell us how you finally do cure the problems.

TTFN

Hugh.
