I also use a Bulldog hitch lock - highly recommended. Also try to find a convenient lamp post to chain the trailer to.

If you park next to something solid - ie like facing a wall, then take the trailer off and put it on its side by the wall and drive the car up close and then chain them together.

If two of you arrive with trailers each, then park next to each other and chain the trailers together, or park back to back and do the same (one trailer on top of other).

Trailer wheels are also easy to take off. Take 'em off and lock them up out of sight.

Best thing is to find a sensible place to park up. Next to a burger van that has long opening hours is always a good choice!

Sounds a right ball ache

Try getting this in your car

Unfortunately, it's also not so easy to chain it to a removable tow hitch as there is no usable loop.
I will be getting a wheel clamp to help slow the oiks down.
I tend to only use it for horse trials as my nephew bought a van about 4 months after we finished the trailer.

wouldn't recommend posting on an open forum methods of locking your stuff and types of lock you use, not on a forum where you post ride meet / start points anyway... just a suggestion

Greetings,

If only 'those' people would turn their intuitive and inventive minds to positive things they could make such a difference to society :?:

A bit like, if the anti motorists would sit down and work with us instead of fighting and wasting public monies how we could improve the routes for all users

Hugh.

The problem with hitch lock is if you have a bolt on ball rather than swan neck they just remove two bolts and leave the hitch lock on until they get home.
Use it but also chain the trailer to vehicle or something as an extra.
Its all about deterrent and someone else's being easier to take than yours. Multiple locks equal more time for them to remove.
Unfortunately a portable disc cutter will go through most things.
Even removing your wheels is no problem when a flat bed with Hiab (vehicle of choice for certain parts of the community) lifts it in seconds.

If you look under your car many have a hoop at rear used for tying down during transport

I used to put a chain through the main frame of the trailer and then through the locked alloy wheel on thr car.
I now have a Dave Cooper collapsible trailer that fits in the back of the car after undoing 3 nuts n bolts. Also stores nicely in the garage when collapsed down

Steve

PS I hadn't thought about the ultimate deterrent like David.........paint it KTM orange!!!!!

There won't be another one like it so difficult to hide :D
That was part of the theory when I chose the colour, not just KTM. Stops me buying a Honda and clashing as well.

With my bad back, it's difficult enough fitting the hitch anyway Bill without actually having to bend low enough to see anything.
I don't think there is though. I think BMW X3s are meant to tow horse boxes, not bike trailers
