Maybe a single air cooled 4 stroke, xr 250 etc...

Id much rather an aincooled simple bike than a modern 4 banger just to do trail riding!

You'll be hard pushed to find a 2 stroke trailie for that money, let alone a decent KTM.

You'll get a CRM 250 for that budget, have a look on the CRM forum, there's always a few on there and usualy well sorted.

There is a very nice KDX250 on EBay at the minute, £1500.... Asking price... So probably get it for less... But it looks real nice...

I have to second that, wish I bought one years ago, now trying to make up for lost time! :o

With the finesse of a cheetah stalking it's prey, the torque of a 450 combined with great handling / suspension and lightness afoot - what's not to like? Did I mention the tractor pulling torque?

Love it!

Big 2 strokes chugs better is not my experience. I have had mainly 2 strokes all my riding life and find the bigger the engine the harder it is to ride generally. I ride a Husky 125 and can get up anything. I wish sometimes it had Ktm 200 power for faster fire roads or Tarmac sections. I don't think you need more than a 200.
