I do not have a 701 , but ride a fe 350 , my mate has just purchased one about six months ago , looks a cracking bike he really likes it , we have been out about three times together and he can go everywhere I can on mine , even when it gets tight and technical it does it all. A tad big and heavy for me but he is a big chap so has no problem. Nice bike

Junk the standard OEM pipe in favour of an akro or similar and it's the weight of a DRZ 400 with over twice the power. Up to 80 mpg easy to ride slow over the technical stuff and has the best stock suspension of any production bike. Up to 230 miles on a tank. Like many performance bikes it's only a handful if you open the throttle. Goes any where a EXC does. Best of all worlds really. Same as a 690 but marginally better. I love my EXC KTM but this is my best bike ever. I'm only 5'7".

Can't say much about the 701 but I ran a 2013 690 for 3 years and have nothing but praise for it, reliable economical and great fun to ride and only limited by rider ability, the only things replaced were service items (bear in mind they are hard on chains and tyres) and the seat which was replaced under warranty when the base cracked, so 3 model years on I would expect current 690's to be better and the Husky even more so.
The SWM range looks good but forget any link to SWM's of the past other than the name, built in the old Husky factory they do seem to be based on the old Husky models but there are obvious differences and many parts now come from China, so view as new range from new manufacturer.
