Hi all,

I have just signed up to the forum and have come across what appears to be a nice, sensibly priced Honda crf230f which I am contemplating buying for a bit of trail riding - obviously if I get one I will be joining the TRF! The problem is that it is currently a 6 hour round trip away.

I used to own an XR650 which was waaaayy to big for the trails and I desperately want a leccy boot on my next bike. At 6' and 15.5stone the little Honda may be a bit on the small side, hence I was wondering whether anyone who owns one in Kent/East Sussex (I live near Canterbury) would be prepared to let me have a little look and maybe a sit on it to try it out for size?

Many thanks in anticipation!

CRF230 is a decent trail bike. What about a TTR 250? I know of a clean one forsale..

My old XR650 was a great bike for laning. Beast just used to plough through everything..

Very good ability the little crf's, being 6ft you may feel like your riding a kids pit bike. Awesome bulletproof engine.

LMAO, most bike will work ok. Get something too tall & cut the seat foam down if needed. Comfort very important.
What ever you do, make sure you get one of these:

Thanks for the replies gents, I might be interested in the TTR - don't know whether I can send you a PM as I don't seem to have access for some reason? Am I allowed to either put my phone number or request yours on the forum or is that verboten?

Would still like to have a close look at a crf230 without driving for 6 hours!

I am 6ft and 14.5 stone in my riding gear and ride a CRF230F.

Before the CRF I had a Yamaha WR250F and first rode the Honda abroad while I owned the Yamaha. My first reaction was it was a toy. At the end of the first days riding I was so impressed with it, I had managed some technical riding that I could not have done on the Yamaha.

On my bike I needed to raise the bars and fitted first put 20mm bar risers on. This wasn't enough and I put Dakar bars on (taller and pull back) to feel comfortable. Putting the Dakar bars on required new (longer) throttle and clutch cables and a new brake hose. You might feel comfortable with just bar risers. The suspension is also lacking. I have changed the rear shock and have "emulators" to fit to the front forks (a friend of mine has them on his CRF and confirms they make enough of a difference to make it worthwhile fitting them).

They are not the fastest bike around but are honest and reliable. The CRF is a popular bike in USA, Brazil and Australia so there is loads of information available on the web.

Hope this helps :)

Thanks again for all the input Gents, I am now considering a TTR but would still love to take a look at a CRF230F - there must be someone in Kent or close by with one!

I will be taking a crf 230 from Herts to Dorking Surrey on Sunday returning Monday PM

I may swing by Kent on the return

Otherwise we have a Herts member based near Chelmsford who is a expert on crf230s
