Osm maps are not really up to the job in the uk. They don't really show what's what and will show some restricted byways as roads incorrectly. They are also very limited on the other info that the ordanance survey maps give. I've just got a card from Germany for £40 that has the uk in 1:25 and 1:50k. Looks genuine garmin but I suspect it's not but it all works.

Your thoughts on 1:25 over 1:50 ? I've got 1:50 on my Garmin and find them ok but like you, have seen a 1:25 card on eBay and wondered if it would be worth the upgrade ?

That's the one I've got. It's probabaly not the latest edition maps but things don't change that much and you'll have you're up to date 1:50k on basecamp for planning. They don't work as a sat nav, so you can't just put on point a and point b and expect it to plot you a route using green lanes. I've also found if you try and plot a route on the device, you put in your points at the start of the lanes and bends etc and when you want to use the route it keeps pinging you back to a road and using that. So I've always found plot your days as a track inn basecamp and when you go into track manager on the device you get a line and an arrow(or what ever you've chosen as your icon) which when zoomed in will show you and where you should be. In base camp you will have to highlight individual byways and ucrs if you don't want to spend all day every time scouting for them. Some groups have overlays of their areas lanes that they might share but that's the holy grail!

If I buy a 600 of eBay, with no o/s maps can I just buy the maps and
Install them.
Or is it better to buy the package.
There's a few around £260+ maps
Or £499 all in.
Any advice welcome.
Cheers

What woody said but bear in mind after sales and warranty with eBay sellers. Most cheaper eBay units are recon and not new. What ever you do don't use navitech, who are based in Bulgaria and offer great package deals on the 680. You pay and then wait 2 months for nothing to arrive!

Check out go outdoors. 2 year warranty and genuine os maps think the latest I saw they were down to £300 all in.
