Is the standard needle adjustable? Considering raising mine before going up on the main jet.

Yup, but you won't get much out of it, it's a fine tune device really.Get a 155 main and 42 pilot.... You know you want to... As said checkout CRF's only 250 jetting database.... Then you will see how much EVERYONE else goes... They are lean as shit standard..

Mine's also a 2014 XRL so has the 42 pilot. 155 might be too big as I'm running a Motad exhaust which is quieter than standard, with no performance mods. Maybe I will try a 138 like axa, and raise the needle a notch - needle should affect part throttle openings, main jet should affect full throttle, although of course there is some overlap.

axa, how is your 138 working out? Think you need to go bigger or is it good where it is?

138 has smoothed things out a little but I'm still not 100% happy with it.
I'm also considering adjusting the needle because there is a hesitancy right at the beginning of the throttle action.
155 seems very big to me, especially if the airbox mod has not been done - like mine.

I plan to spend an afternoon with a mate changing the settings and test riding back-to-back. Quite when this is going to happen though I don't know. One other though on this, its one thing to run the bike up and down the road to check results and another to ride it at trail speeds.

cheers
axa

Ap oring mod, and timing the ap squirt, will rid you of the bog at set off... CRF's only website.... There is not really any easy half measure solutions you need to do ALL the mods together....

That Motad exhaust does tame the bike down somewhat... I still have mine... But it ain't on the bike any more.... Very quiet but could not live with the power loss...

Yeah, I'm fine with the power. I like it quiet for trail riding. I'm considering adding a small secondary silencer, if it fits, to make it even quieter.

I'll look into those AP mods. Perhaps I'll try a 140 with the needle raised.

It's definitely lean though. When I start it from cold, I can't touch the throttle until the coolant is up to about 70 degrees C. Will check the pilot screw after making the other changes.

Once again, check out the CRF's only jetting Database... Not many people go leaner than a 150 main...
