You got me there, I didn't read the spec that closely. :)

I am not knocking the bike one bit though. I like it.

It seems to me to be close the crf in a lot of departments. I bought a crf so it makes sense I like what the Beta is about.

All very true and I was talking to a couple of CRF-L riders last Sunday and they look a good bike

Not many 'trailbikes' about nowadays

John I just got one off eBay , needed some work, carb service brake service, chain sprockets all the usual, paint works rough, perfect for laning, parts prices are a joke unless you can cross it over. First time out this weekend, will see how it performs.

Was that the one on eBay a month or so back?

I think most of the engine/carb stuff is Suzuki so cheap & pads/c&s are pretty cheap on eBay

Most plastics seem ok via Beta too

I got a few bits in Italy and they were cheaper

I'd be interested to hear your thoughts after your ride on the trails this weekend

Post it up on this thread if you would - cheers :)

Fantastic choice of bike, a little bone shaking tractor on the Tarmac but as soon as you hit the dirt it's all good, the old mx tyres are hard and slippery on corners on the Tarmac, the mirrors a little annoying rubbing your arms when standing up,the main point of my outing was to prove reliability, and it was faultless including the beaming smile all the way home, looking forward to some group rideouts

Interesting feedback on the Alp 4.0. I've had one for two years or so, and it's superb. Also got a Serow, shod with Maxxis and AC10 knobblies for all the mud here in Wales. Alp had trials tyres when I got it - fatal in mud, and, yes very heavy when it's lying on top of you on a muddy slope. However I put Avon Distanzia tyres on about a year ago. Transformed handling on road, better than almost any other bike I've ridden, and it will still do green lanes - used it on Black Mountain and various other dryish lanes on Isle of Man recently. My mirrors fold in for standing up or loading in van. I'd planned to sell it when I bought Serow, but cannot persuade myself to part with it. Other bike is a vintage XL185. They are all different, but a big smile guaranteed on any of them. My Alp has a 46 rear sprocket, but I'll swap to a 48 now I've read this thread. Thanks for tip to protect rear brake cylinder.
Rob
