Anybody with a Honda XR400 would do well to modify the insert that is in the neck of the petrol tank. Remove the insert & drill a hole or two about halfway. It only needs to be a 3mm hole. This will then allow more fuel to be put in the tank for those long rides with unknown fuel stops. Should give about another 10-15 miles range.

Just inside of the filler neck there is an insert which is quite a tight fit. This insert effectively lowers the height of petrol that you can get into the tank.By removing the insert and drilling 2 or 3 small holes about an inch down from the top, you will allow slightly more fuel to be added over and above what you would normally be able to put in.Could make all of the differance when out on a long ride.

Hi John.

Sorry for the late reply...been a little out of things with my internal upsets due to a tree back in May...but that's another story.

The drilled holes in the insert will enhance the range that a standard tank will give you. It is a free modification that can be done to XR250 & XR600/650 as well.
