I recently had a WR250F - it was a beauty with full FMF system, but I just couldn't love it - yes fast and high revving engine, but as previously said rubbish for any road riding as I kept wanting to find a 6th gear, so I sold it and i dont regret that. I guess it depends what you use it for. If I could afford I'd go for the WR250R. I previously had XR400 and the Yam was much lighter and agile. Now for the timebeing I'm just riding my 1987 XR250.

The TTR is not really the best bike at anything. BUT it will have a go at everything! and it's versatility is what makes it such a useuful bike to own.

If you want versatility how many bikes can boast:
Air cooled simplicity with electric start and fairly readily available bits
Able to enter Trials or Long Distance Trials in trail bike class (most 'green laners' are classed as enduro/sports)
Able to enter rallies and enduros and have some fun
Able to commute shorter non-motorway distances (65 mpg and 120 mile tank range)
Superb geeen lane bike which is really Quiet.

Yes in every category there is a better bike. But you won't find anything else that does all this in one package, except perhaps the Honda CRF230, but from Honda that is not road legal.

The new Yamaha WR250R will also be a great bike but is very expensive and almost no second hand ones yet.

There is no perfect bike for every purpose. Ask anyone who is a real bike enthusiast becasue I bet they all have at least two bikes :)

I always say to people the worst bike you can buy is... one that you don't (or can't) use and enjoy. Therefore the best bike is the one that is most reliable and you can use most of the time :D
