been looking at few bikes and some are unregistered for road use - is a a real pain to buy and do yourself or is it best to pay a bit more and buy one already done ?

Hi Racman, welcome to the TRF

A mate and I did his CRF - financially it probably worked out the same as the bike was cheaper but then had to buy lights, horn etc.

We fitted it ourselfs - easy - and went straight through the MOT. DVLA at Worcester didn't even look at the bike just wanted to see the relevant paperwork;

Proof of age certificate from manufacturer
MOT
Application

So if you have a little know how you might even save a few quid. But be carefull which bike you chose as Motox machines are too aggressive for trail riding and you'll end up wishing you'd bought something tamer.

I'd be very wary of anything without a logbook - you could spend a lot of money and effort getting it road ready, only to find out it's dodgy.

You could be right. It's just that stating that there's no logbook in the advert, without saying why, just sounds suspicious. However, it's not necessarily a problem if, as you say, there's a good reason.

There's a very clean and ready to roll TTR250 for sale over on UKGSer - http://www.ukgser.com/forums/showthread.php?t=206712. The seller is one of the moderators so I don't think he'd be selling it on there if he wasn't happy about its condition.

My mate phoned up Honda's customer services in Swindon and they supplied him with the right contact numbers to request it.

So yeah, suzuki uk I suppose would be where you wanna try.
