So - what is the point? It seems more a hindrance than anything else, especially when on tarmac as it causes drag and I can feel it forcing my head back...
I'm after a new helmet and like the look of the Caberg Tourmax but thinking I might save myself £50 and neck-ache and get the Duke.

If you commute in the Winter months when the sun is very low you would know why a peak is handy. They can always be removed when not required.

Keeps brambles/branches etc from hitting you in the face...keep your head down and go.

Keeps sun out of eyes as said.

Keeps water and mud being splashed up off your goggles.

Stops you looking like a bubblehead space creature

i use to have a cheap mx helmet i bought from a motorcycle show paid about £30 for it and like you say the amount of wind resistance pulling my head back while riding of the road in the wind was not comfortable.

i recently bought a airoh helmet and the wind resistance is no more which obviously goes to show the helmet must be more aerodynamic which makes it a hell of a lot more comfortable for laning

Thanks for your replies. Still considering the Duke...

If the peak is adjusted properly it shouldn't tip your head back.

Ideally there should be a light pressure tilting head down. This means the peak is sheltering the visor from rain etc.

Also used for avoiding any roosters on a track or in sloppy mud

There are two points of the design of a motocross helmet that give it a really cool look:

For those reasons an off road helmet will always be my preference, especially on an off road bike.
