As I was in the area anyway I popped into BVM Moto in Stroud yesterday to try a Beta Alp 4.0 for size. As I've heard here and elswhere it is a very heavy machine and too tall for my little legs, as was the KLX250 which also looked a bit fragile. Had a look at the Scorpa T ride but none too impressed, but overheard a chap buying some parts talking about getting ready for the Exeter Trial, so I ask him what he rides - "Beta Alp 200". Big bob in the parts department chimes in that he has one - out the back if I want a look at it - and that Steve Saunders has one too.

After half an hour of talking about the balance between weight, power and handling I'm sold on the 200 Alp, and buy the NOS one in the showroom. It's a 2006 model though never been used or registered. It's had some preparation done - front mudguard raised, protective film in a few places, alloy guard for the rear brake cylinder. Steve is going to fit new footrest mounts to move them back and shorten the brake pedal to suit, and fit a pair of Renthal bars. They're also going to find me a better rear lamp / number plate bracket as apparently they're prone to breaking off.

So, is there anything else I need to do to it to prepare for long distance trialling & trail riding?

Sure someone will do one to fit your model.
Maybe need handguards too...

Tyre security bolts?

Oh, and if it's been standing for the best part of 4 years and has an electric starter it will need a new battery.

Steve

No, I'm in Wantage, Oxfordshire, but have had a couple of trials bikes from BVM in the past.
