I've a Yamaha bias; nearly every bike I have is either Yamaha or has a yamaha engine (scorpa trials) but I've never had one let me down. Nearly all the members of my local group use either WR250s or Husky 250s - it sounds small but the fastest guys in the group all ride 250s.. The guys on bigger bikes spend more time on the floor and finish a day worn out after wrestling with the power. Going from a 450 to a 250 was the best thing I ever did (and I'm in reasonable shape, rugby player build and in my thirties)
If you've got used to snapping the throttle to loft the front wheel over puddles, rocks etc, you'll have you use your weight, clutch and timing more with a smaller engine; the technique is more precise and has to be more planned (which makes youir prediction better) but other than that, I don't really see any advantages to the bigger bikes
Typical comments from a Yam rider - all about speed and wheelies. Ditch the blue devil and get yourself a proper European bike that's sympathetic to the lanes. Jap bikes = more TRO's, thank the stars for Orange or we'd have no access left
