I can't imagine that this will be good news for trail riding but does anybody have knowledge of what this actually entails? Will it give more powers to those who hope to restrict recreational vehicle use even further?

I know that Liverpool Waterfront currently has UNESCO world heritage status...and that can hardly be described as a natural landscape untouched by the hand of man. Liverpool's status is actually under threat ATM because of plans to build some skyscrapers overlooking the docks which will tower over the Liver Building and other iconic landmarks.

So WHS would seem to actually be about preserving things 'as they are'...including the various unsurfaced roads. Vehicle users including the TRF actually have a good record in the Lakes for helping to preserve these routes by undertaking resurfacing works etc, so it's really up to us to make sure that this kind of thing is in the foreground when it comes to discussion about preserving the Lakes.

Thanks Richard, what you say makes perfect sense & I certainly hope it's the case but whenever one of these organisations that seem to want to preserve the world in aspic gets involved my natural optimism seems to disappear very quickly

I agree with that view Richard, same thing has happened to the Brecon Beacons, it's been ruined by farmers who burn the hillsides to stifle any tree growth and blame it on the local yoofs
Nothing that can't be used to feed sheep is allowed to grow, hardly any ancient forest left. sickens me.
