In this instance yes. But when lanes are being trashed by 4x4s and those lanes are threatened by TROs then we would be better off distancing ourselves and our use from theirs.

its not the vehicle its the user. Its easy to fall into the trap of labelling whole user groups when really we should be looking much closer. Our slogan in the Peaks is "green lanes for everyone"

The blog I linked with was, I think, written by a lady walker.

If you do any RoW research in Dorset, one name will keep coming up as having saved lanes for all (including motorcyclists) to use.

That name is Ruth Collier. She was the Ramblers RoW person in the county in the 1970s, and a great supporter of the TRF.

I never met her, but it seems that with tiny resources she took on nearly all the rich landowners (five families) of Dorset, and won far more than she lost.

Sorry Smokinrider, but have to strongly disagree, we all have a legal right to ride or drive the lanes and creating division is something I would prefer to leave to Politicians and the Daily Mail.

Cyclists and walkers could easily cite motorcycles as damaging in comparison to their use and what about Quads eh?
No, whilst we should stand against destructive use, we need to be inclusive of others rights, in my very limited experience the TRF is elitist enough allready

Even though we have so few lanes, it was amazing how many were merely overgrown when we went out last weekend.
Trying to dodge brambles and low tree branches was an 'interesting' experience so it was amazing to see some reasonable fresh horse pooh on lanes that I doubt a horse could walk down without a rider.
It is probably only our use that is keeping some open.

What you're showing is appalling and it is sadly typical that the buck for 'sorting out' the landowner seems to be forever floating.

For what it's worth, although I feel the 4x4 use is (can be) severely damaging in many many cases, we should be weeding out damaging groups, whoever they are and however they get about.
In the dust last weekend, there was a group of maybe 30 walkers all together on an RB that joins the end of a byway. In the winter, they would probably have caused more damage to the RB (or it's verges to stay dry) than our 6 bikes, where we ever able to get the restricted bit lifted and revert to byway.
