URGENT! TRF Helpers needed for a Horse Event
Will I be OK?
We need riders with trail motorcycles that can be ridden quietly and unobtrusively – stealth-ish.
Why do we do it?
To raise funds for the TRF and to improve ‘public relations’. The Organisers are very friendly and appreciative.
When’s it on?
Soon! Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th July. Action between about 09:30 and about 18:00. You can also come for part of a day - every little helps!
What’s occurring?
We follow the ‘cross-country’ course, while the horses are running, and collect score sheets from the Fence Judges at each jump and take them to the Scorers.
How does the day pan out?
Chris Amos (South Wales TRF) will look after everyone for both days. You will be given the location, Chris’s mobile phone number, and asked to bring a few things. Chris will get you safely onto the venue, then train you to operate safely along with the horses milling around and those in the competition. After training, each helper takes it in turns to go around at intervals of about 15 - 30 minutes. In between you can have a chat with the other TRF helpers, Fence Judges, and others. There is also dressage and show-jumping to see. About 1000 competitors will be there.
What if I get hungry and thirsty?
There are free bacon rolls, cakes, tea/coffee, and a packed lunch. There is also a paid-for fast-food wagon. And toilets.
Where is it?
In the grounds of Chepstow Racecourse. You can camp overnight on the venue if you wish.
What’s the place like?
The course is over undulating grassland, and through small woods and derelict buildings. There are fantastic views over woodland and the Severn estuary.
