(Big Bike Friendly)
KTM Centre Hemel
Just a reminder that we have the Beginners Ride this Saturday from
the KTM Centre Hemel Hempstead
Big Bike (& small Bike) Beginners Ride from the KTM Centre, Hemel Hempstead. 10:00AM (0945 briefing) Beginners level ride.
Depending on numbers this run may be split into two groups. One following me will be a slow run suitable for beginners with machinery that can follow my BMW G650 X country with TCK80s.
Roland Brown Motoring correspondent from the Daily Telegraph & St Albans resident will be doing an article on Herts TRF and riding with us on a KTM 990 on road tyres.
The other for more confident riders will go off first. If it has rained there will be some muddy puddles but anyway a lot of stones, many roots, a little grass and some (optional) deep water. I will be stopping before some historically muddier lanes to check if anyone wants to bypass them.
Meeting at the KTM Centre Hemel Hempstead HP3 9AJ GPS: N51 44.335 W0 28.485 then using the lanes between Hemel, Tring and Luton.
You can end the ride just South of Luton or after another small lane and an (optional) ford at Redbournbury Lane West of Hatfield or return to the KTM centre for window shopping.
Petrol is available on the A4251 south or north of the meeting point.
Numbers will be limited to a manageable group so please contact Trevor Judd at

www.taffydakar.org.uk/ the 2014 Taffy Dakar is a non-competitive Motorcycle Orienteering Event based in South Wales and geared towards the traditional family of motorcycle sports. The event requires some navigational skills using only a map and compass to navigate from point to point in diverse and usually unfamiliar terrain; normally moving at speed on a motorcycle geared for riding green lanes or multi-terrained surfaces.
Participants of the Taffy Dakar 2014 Event are to be given a laminated topographical map of the South Wales area. A specially prepared Taffy Dakar orienteering map, which will be used to find predefined control points and point scoring tallies.
The 2014 event is influenced and based on an original training exercise in land navigation for military officers inspired by the Great Escape Motorcycle Club and heavily based upon the original Paddy Dakar event in Doon, Ireland (Home of the Paddy Dakar).
Motorcycle orienteering has developed into many variations. The definition of any sport that involves racing against a clock and requires navigation using a map is a type of orienteering. The Taffy Dakar differs in that the clock doesn't seem to have much relevance. There seems to be a point scheme for the fun factor that each competitor or group of competitors bring to the event.
So What are you going to need for 2014?
• Yourselves
• Motorcycle(s)
• Pen
• Tent
• Friend(s) or just make new ones
• Sense of Direction
• Compass
• Body Protection
• Smile
• beer & dinner money
