It seems to have gone quiet up here in the North East!

Please come and support your local group!

Ian has arranged a FOREST NIGHT RIDE, there are still some space available so get in touch with Ian and get yourself on it!

That brings us nicely to the next Northumbria group meeting which is on Wednesday 1st May at the Staffs Club, Tyne Street, Blaydon, NE21 4JB (next to the petrol station)

The meeting starts at 8pm,

Are you new to trail riding and want to meet other people to ride with? Well, on the night you can book a place on the next group / newbie ride out, find out where you can legally ride, get an up date on changes, temporary and permenant, to the status of Byways and Unclassified County Roads (UCR) in the area.

Got a problem with your bike? maybe another member could suggest a solution.

There is also a raffle of bike goodies (£2 per ticket-which normally includes a tyre!)

You can also purchase discounted tyres, tubes and oils on the night.

But best of all you can socialise and talk bikes with other like minded people over a cheap pint!!

All are welcome to come along to the meeting, so don't be shy get yourself there!

If you can't make this one the meetings are on the first Wednesday of each month or contacts are on the Northumbria TRF website : http://northumbriatrf.net/

If you can, please try and support the club, even if you are not yet a member you will be welcome, just make yourself known.

See you there

Paul

I have to say chaps that in the history of bad ideas this night ride in slaley forest is up near the top,the locals have already succeeded in getting two routes closed and are wanting more closed, they are also partly responsable for the tro's in the first place, and have asked for a stronger police presence around the forest, so i don't think they'll take too kindly to a bunch of motorcycles riding around the forest at 1 o clock in the morning where the sound will carry that much further in the still of the night, and are likely to call the police for anti-social behaviour...i gather this was discussed at the meeting if so, it's even more disturbing.
Come on lads think!

I can see where you are coming from mick but this has been carefully thought about.

We have no intension screaming down the main street in Slaley half a dozen times, or making it a race track for the night by going round and round flat out.

We are going to pass straight through, ride the lanes and be gone.

We all know how sensitive this area is but the route that is going to be ridden has been carefully planned so we won't be going past many houses especially in Slaley.

I fail to see what will be gained by riding the seasonal tro's one minute after they've opened,it will still be one minute past midnight and the noise will be noticed and reported,it will not matter if you're passing staight through(another thing i can't understand)the damage will be done and further tro's may follow.
Why not just ride them at 9am on the 1st???

Paul i think Micks got a point there! the sound of a bike at night is magnified greatly! :o i wouldnt be surprised if the police arent contacted as the locals prob wont know its a ligitamet trf ride out! I wonder if you were to call on a few random houses before hand to ask if theyd mind or at least they could gossip with each other so they know its just you lot when the night comes!

Although I'm neither a member of the Northumbria TRF nor indeed a resident of the area concerned I would like to add a point or two regarding night rides.
I have in the past organized road rally's including night sections through villages, and past houses deemed to be disturbed by the noise of a number of vehicles passing in the dead of night.
Those house affected were PR,d prior to the event, this meant physically going and speaking to the residents to make them aware of the event and to allow them to voice any concerns regarding noise.
Mostly noise was taken care of by means of quiet sections where the vehicle was run in a high gear as possibly with minimum revs, this always seemed to work as vehicles crept through the area fairly quietly.
Bearing in mind these events were run on public roads with all road legal vehicles the need to keep the public on our side was paramount.
I have also run into the problems faced by those of us who use green lanes and I feel running a night event on the particular lanes mentioned will do nothing to assist the public image of your TRF.
We riders as a whole face stiff opposition from various angles and riding a lane at night simply because you can I feel is not in the best interest of our chosen pastime.
Maybe a PR exercise involving the public prior to the event inviting them (the public) to see the bikes used, exactly how quiet they are when running and showing how the majority of us actually enjoy the countryside may help the cause.
BTW I'm not a signed up member of the TRF just yet but I feel any good press is a lot better than a little bit of bad press.

Thanks murray,
In a perfect world there would be nothing wrong in what they want to do,but it isn't perfect and i just think this will give more ammunition to the antis....if you want to trailride in the dark do it in the winter months when it's dark at 5pm.
