Hello,

Well at last I have a little bike and a van to start trail riding. 8-)

I bought a CRF 230 as I am a short legged novice, I've been out a few times but just around a dissused quarry. Scotland's a bit of a nightmare for trailriding, I've been threatened once with being shot, and shouted at once too...I used to have a montessa trials bike and respect others on the trails but to no avail....sick of the confrontation and I know it will soon lead to me being arrested

Trying my best not to let these experiences put me off I am looking for some trail riding areas (and groups to join with)as close to the border as possible where I can legally ride. My plan is to head to closest routes for a ride on the bike and camp in my van overnight, heading back home the following day.

Would I be best getting my bike road legal (I've been riding road bikes for years so no probs with licence) and if so which tyres would you guys recommend I go for?
Also which group would I be best joining with regards to my location?
Thanks guys look forward to getting out there, need the excercise if nowt else! :D

Hello and welcome daymo.
Your bike needs to be road legal as we ride "green" roads,so tyres will also have to be road legal,i'm using a mitas cf 06 front (i think) and a mitas co2 rear (for sure) but others will mention a host of other tyres for you to use.You will have to travel to either the cumbria trf area or the northumbria trf area for shortest travel both have lots of lanes for you to enjoy, weekends are best for people to show you around but there's a few people out during the week but harder to find.
Drop a line when you're thinking of coming and i'll see what i can do.

regards mick,northumbria trf

Mick,

Thanks for the reply.
I'll get the bike road legal then, was thinking a daytime MOT would be handy anyway.
I've managed to find some info on tyres (via a handy PDF on here!) so I'll order them up now.

I've checked out your group too so I'll let you know of my plans as I am keen to get involved.
I am working in OZ for the next month anyway..so it will be after that.

Off to research daytime mot regs.
