Are my expectations too high?

I bought a new KTM a couple of weeks ago.
I know it only has a 30day warranty so I’ve done a few miles on the tarmac to get it up to temperature and make sure there’s no obvious issues such as leaks, engine rattles etc.
I was about to put on an aluminium sump guard when I noticed a defect in the paint where it had missed a bit on a weld at the bottom of the frame.
I’m wondering if anyone else has had this on a new bike? What did you do about it?
I know it’s “only” a dirt bike and not a Bentley – but should I expect it to be rectified.

If you scroll across to the weld you can see it’s down to bare metal.
It's not that apparent in the image but quite a deep little pit.

I’d be very interested in your thoughts. Perhaps I’m being too precious?

Wouldn't worry about it. It'll pick up scrapes and dings if you ride it as intended, also just by fitting the bash plate, it will wear the paint off in no time where it rubs.

I'm sure if you mentioned it to a dealer you'd get a funny look and the response of "it's a competition machine mate, are you gonna ride it or polish it!"

If your worried maybe pick up a touch up pen and fill up the void.

I had a similar gripe when I bought a dr with a drip in the paint on the tank. After I'd thrown it down a few times I stopped worrying.

i bought a brand new BMW GSA and within two years all the paint flaked off the rear half of the frame. Took it back and was told " some of them go like that .....thats what they do" Best part of £15000 at the time and they said that if i bring it in just before christmas they would sort it out for me.........yeah for £1200 they would.

burnt the clutch out doing the C2C in 2015. Got it powder coated whilst the engine was out having the clutch done.

I don`t think you would get much of a response if you did bring it to their attention. Perhaps a few "sniggles" behind your back.

If it was underneath a Bentley i cant see the response would be any different.

If its just the paint I wouldn't worry about it but looking at that image it looks as though its got a hole or prick into the frame which if it is I would take back as that would mean a weak spot for the frame to crack further over time..if you buy something and your not happy about anything about it def question it..as its not gonna hurt. Who cares if the bike shop gives you funny looks a lot of bike shops tend to be a bit funny and cocky in general

Thanks everyone for your thoughts.

I've taken the pragmatic approach and ordered a little bottle of touch up paint.

I suppose if the frame was black I wouldn't have even noticed it.

Cheers

Hi Pete

I've finally gone over to the dark side and got a KTM.
It's a new 2017 500exc-f six days.
Got a great deal (£2K discount) cos the 2018's are starting to arrive.
I couldn't resist it.

Cheers
Steve

Thanks Mike.

It looks great in the flesh.

It's a long time since I bought a new bike.

If I had my way it'd be in the front room as a piece of modern art until I get it out on the dirt haha!!
