Hello

Welcome

Over the border in Suffolk, I do get up as far as Thetford Forest!

BTW, what do you think of the 950SM? I was thinking of getting one.

Hi Spitfire

thanks for the welcome!

The 950 sm is the best bike I have owned; I was lucky enough to get one of the last few unregistered carb models before the 990 f.i range was launched; i.m.o, ktm have a long way to go to get the fueling right on f.i. ............ I would recommend one to anyone!

If you wanna hook up and do some trails let me know.

Welcome to the forum. It's good to have a variety of differant bikes in the garage...the KTM's are such a good bike for on the dirt. My '04 450 is soooo differant to my XR400...but they both have a grin factor that is difficult to explain.

Tim - thanks for the welcome.

Yes, after the drz the ktm is something else.............. but I still enjoy the work-out that the drz gives me................. oh, and less oil changes etc than the ktm

the 250 rfs engine is ok once the fueling is sorted out to avoid the lowdown flat spot............. raising the needle helped greatly.

I was going to go for the 350 conversion, but I have been scared off by horror stories of failing head gaskets following conversion.

As for the big ktm.................. I was out on that earlier. BAD influence

A friend did the 350 kit on his 250 & didn't/hasn't had a problem...but then i'm not sure how he rides his.

Another owner that I have met whilst riding his 250 up in Wales said that he found it far more manageable than a 400/450. Strange how many people are going for the smaller machines recently...a fellow Kent member has sold his KTM300EXC & bought himself a WR250F & loves it. I have ridden a Husky 250/4st & found it very light & easy to ride...but when that was stolen he bought a 450EXC/RFS & enjoys the bottom end/mid range.

I've heard that Motard bikes cause the brain into a differant gear...I do the same when out on my R1...must get those SM wheels back on my XR when my ribs have healed.

when you find a road legal trail bike that has the grunt of the drz and comes in at around 100 kilo's or less, please let me know ;). Seriously though, the 250 rfs would be just right if it had that bit more low down grunt................. saying that, it saves on rear tyres. Not sure how people fit on an R1............ I found an sv crippling! .............. hence the nine fiddy........... fantastic bike.

Hi,
have you done the valves on your 250 rfs? I'm just adjusting mine now and its a bit of a struggle
I've taken the magneto cover off to find TDC and found there is very little freeplay in the inlet valves. This makes it very tight getting the feeler gauge in - unless I'm doing something wrong?! Any tips if you've done this job?

cheers
axa

sorry for the delay....................

check out the uk ktm forum.......... 'kevinyorks' (font of all orange knowledge on the forum) has written up a really good sticky on how to do this very job........... it enables me to do mine in about 1/2 hr, start to finish. You will find though, that the feeler guages are tight fit; access is for the small fingered! oh, no need to take the cover off - read the sticky and you will see what I mean ;) .

just google 'uk ktm forum'.................

Hope that helps

Hi Shipdamite

Did you ever go down the 450EXC route?

Just replaced mine with the 690 Enduro courtesy of Mr.Barkshire (...only had it a few weeks but what a bike, far better than the pilot will ever be  )
