Hi all, just joined after a few months of solo riding (yes I know it's not wise) midweek due to working the w/end shift. W/ends are now free so I'm on the lookout for anyone who fancies putting up with a near newbie for a few rideouts. I've had road bikes before but as many have done decided to have a go at greenlaning etc, I'm not a fast rider nor a slow rider (I hope), although I'm finding those 4x4 ruts a nightmare in the wet, aghh!

Anyway I'm from the coalville area in Leics if you're interested or I'd appreciate some advice on where to go nearby. I've also got a trailer and would love to go to Wales or Derbys in the mountains etc.

Cheers all and hope to hear from someone soon

Duncan (xr400)

p.s. never dreamed it would make me ache so much lol

Welcome to the forum.
Sorry I do not live in your area but love the fact that the XR400 is still out there alive & well. I have had one of these bikes for ages & still find it fun to ride despite the fact that I have a KTM 450 as well.

Hi, thanks for that, I'll give em a try. Is there a place near you called 'the desert' that may be worth a visit, I've heard some say it's a bit mad and dangerous?

Hi. "The Desert" is a piece of Coal Board land near Mansfield. Although it has been used by many as an off-road practice area it is in fact illegal to ride on it. In times past a blind eye was turned, but not the case now. Due to complaints (not sure who from) the local gendarmes are keeping a close eye on it since early last year, as far as I know. To be fair they did send letters and emails to many local biking groups to say they would be doing this.

To echo previous posts - hook up with your local TRF group, they can show you legal lanes to ride and most groups do organise trips to other parts of the country as well.

Mick.

Hi m8
the desert is best kept away from as they are dishing out 59s like hot cakes.
they are all so patrolling it on 450 Honda's.
In the good old days it was a fantastic place, and as mentioned no one used to bother you. but at present it is a no go.

Wow, sounds like a pretty good job, you could ride round there all day knowing you're not going to get in bother and have the whole place to your self whilst getting paid, maybe a career change is in order lol

Cheers for that

Maybe the 'Powers that be' could deputise TRF Members and let us patrol the area. I would like nothing more than bubbling the 'tossers on crossers' that give us such a bad name.

can i carry a side arm?
