Hi all,
I'm looking at getting into green laning (coming off road bikes). I'd like something that won't be too mild so that I get bored but not too firebreathing so that I can learn the off-road ropes (I've been a little off-road but not much). Looking at KTM400, WR250f maybe a 2t KTM exc thing. But I'm up for any suggestions. Ideally, something I can navigate trails with but will be reasonable to ride on the road to other further away spots (plus the occasional hoon into town for milk). Btw, I can't do really small bikes as I'm quite tall and relatively heavy at 15st. Also not interested in DRZs XR250 as they look too heavy & pedestrian for my needs.
Cheers :D

An XR250 is lighter than a KTM EXC 400.

I'm 6'2 and 17st and the XR 250 pisses past some guys stuck on their KTM's because they're stuck & spinning

Sounds like a 125 would be good as you have big gonads if as a novice you want a 400/450

Paul Jay is selling a very nice Yamaha WR200(DT version with auto lube and igniting switch etc) It's in very good and original condition, he's overhauled the engine replacing bearing and seals where needed and a newly relined barrel and new piston etc, new chain & sprockets, new fuel tap, new rear disk and two sets of tyres. Looking to get £1,800.
He's a friend so pm me and I'll give you his mobile number

I had a cr125 a few years ago and it felt way too softly sprung for my size. Maybe you're right about me wanting too big a bike for the trails (as is typical of ex-road riders I guess). But from what I've read the KTM 400 exc has a nice linear power delivery and doesn't spin so much.

Fair play, I didn't know that.

Hi Beefiddler, I'd never heard of a WR200 but it looks cool. Where is your friend based? My only concern would be parts...

Hi,
He is in Hampshire.
Parts are available but probably from a few dealers with the stocks.
If you can't pm, give me a call on mobile 0779209496nine and I'll pass his details on.
Cheers
Pat

Guys who get stuck and spin is usually a lack of throttle control not choice of machinery
