I've ridden one, and they aren't as snappy as they look.

the 250s of the same age have a bit of a flat-spot, which conversely means the power they do have can sometimes arrive when you don't want it to.

the 450 has 'stomp' from the word go, and it's a bit more difficult to modulate the power.

the 400 is generally held to be the 'trail riders' choice' which is one of the reasons why they fetch good money.

The 400 is a lovely bike.

A lot of your control is through your own right hand on the throttle.
As Richard says - it is the perfect trail bike, particularly if, like me, you have to do a fair bit of road work between lanes.

Even better, get a set of spare wheels with road biased tyres and you get double value!!!

The first bikes I rode 'off road' were a 530 and a 690 and both were simple to ride and I scare easy.

Assume you have all the paper work past mots etc?
