 Post subject: 690 a jet wash issue

Ye jet washed the 690 and low and behold wont start .
the engine turned over an did a few pops then nothing.
I left it for an hour or two for it to dry out then boom back to life.
whats going here ?

Something that should be kept dry got wet.

Spark plug or FI electronics.

Always take a can of WD40 or similar to the jetwash.

Just reading that as efi works on mili amp wd40 would interfear with the flow of amps .
mm so was thinking of cycle inertubes cut accordingly to size opening the connectors sliding it's over and then reconnecting cable tie both ends if need be .

I doubt you'd have water actually in the Ecu it's more likely in the kill switch or some other connector. I douse my bike in a de watering fluid, ( duck oil, wd40, pro care etc) after it's been left to drip dry for a few mins and blown dry with the leaf blower or compressor.

Make sure your air box drain is clear as it's not Unknown for the air box to fill up with water. Personally I remove the filter and put on the shield. Also plug the exhaust, never jet wash directly at bearings, seals, chain or elecy connectors if you can help it.
Maybe remove the spark plug connector and wd40 that and the coil.

Most likely is the kill switch had water in it.

Yep all these things i do with my 300exc but as you are aware its got a carb.
690 efi after more reading it seams that water can get into the conector at the throttel body so i have a plan as it seams to plague a few 690s.

Just drown it in wd40, it'll force any water out. Never heard of wd40 effecting electrics but I know water does!

You shouldn't need to wash it that often Andy,mind you, they ARE salting THE ROADS at the minute...

Mate i know wd40 all over but ye apparently because of the low ampage it causes a problem.
So in light of this have you used wd 40 on your efi conectors and had no problems ?

Sounds like a nightmare...I'll stick with carbs for as long as possible!

I'd have thought WD40 would still be OK if sprayed outside the connectors.

Could you use dilectric grease or similar inside them, or would that be a problem.

I'm sorting out a professional application of ACF50 for an all-over spray that is supposed to give up to 12 months anti-corrosion and electrics protection.
It's worth trying for £70 as the spray cans are pricey enough on their own.
It's supposed to be easier to wash as well so all good....in theory.

I do only use Muc Off and a hose though. I have never been brave enough to put a pressure washer near a bike.
