Was thinking of geting one I would use it for commuting general riding or pretty much anything i fancy doing
The question is are they any good possible comparisons ktm 640 adventure what do you think guys.
Bear in mind i ride a ktm exc 400 for general trail riding which i love but would be fun seeing a ride up to scotland maybe wales you get the idea.
My stats are 6ft 17 stone as i believe they are tall machines

They are tall, VERY TALL. I'm comfortable on mine 6ft tall. I did try lowering links but didn't get on with the change in feel, though, to be fair I didn't lower the forks at the same time. I use mine for work, gas engineer, with Stalkhoffer panniers. It's good for cutting through city centre traffic and also happy on anything up to motorway. I also use the bike for 'long distance' trails, Ie coast to coast type runs. As long as you are sensible about which trails you choose to use its a great all rounder and highly capable.
Have a look at xt660.com for tons of info.

There are at least 3 of us in Manchester using the XT660Z some mere mortals use different variants.
Mine was lowered slightly when I bought it so not the same height problem.
It is a heavy bike if you need to pick it up, and according to Phil it does not turn as easily as his 640.
I've fitted TKC80's and find it a good bike for the Adventure Bike Rides we go on, no complaints after a 300 mile day except the lights are not very good.
Not seen it attached but with the right frame work they will even pull a trailer.

looks a good bike to me. I am thinking of getting my son one as a commuter cum tourer cum adventure bike. will want some winter tyres fitting on it though.

Was impressed when i rode with PJT last year as it looked good, was strong and very capable.Bike was not bad either

I am really impressed with my 690 off tarmac and i think you will have to go along way to beat it but on the motorway its not fun. Will try a small faring but if Adventure biking is more than 50% road work then something like the Yamaha might be better.

Bit late in replying as haven't been on here for a very long time.
My tenere is bog standard and has coped very well for a huge beast on the Derbyshire lanes. 2 up to North York moors with some gentle lanes thrown in didn't faze it either! Very good bike and motor, just need to get used to the extra weight and high centre of gravity.

I've recently swapped to an XT660Z Tenere from a sports bike. Great for urban riding, motorway and twisty lanes around the peaks. I've not used it off-road (yet) but it's a very capable bike and I'd certainly recommend mine. It pulls well and feels like a proper hooligan bike it you ride it hard, but it's also well behaved if you ride it gently.
