Thanks for all your suggestions. If I can't stretch to the Sidi Adventures I think I'll look at the Formas.

+1 on the W2's very comfortable, very waterproof although not as protective as a full MX boot and a few mates have managed to destroy the soles on cleated footpegs, although I haven't had any problems (I don't use the rubber inserts on my 990 Adventures pegs).

So far so good on my soles - maybe depends if you squiggle your feet around when riding rather than flailing about in desperation with your legs in the air.

Avoid the W2 boots, they do wreck easily and the customer support is total crap, so bad ive made it one of my life missions to show them that if they looked after one customer then it would bring in the rest. BUT treat customers like shit and id put off as many as I could for the rest of my life. So far ive put off over 15 purchasers of their boots, thier loss for the cost of one replacement pair at cost to them.
Your choice but if you do buy them dont come on here moaning that the sole is knackered because we did tell you.
sidi by the way have been a revelvation of service and are great boots.

If I recall correctly, they do advise you that enduro pegs might/will damage the soles.

A few of us are very pleased with them and yours is the first negative opinion so I wouldn't ignore them. Mine are as good as the day I bought them. Just spray the clips with silicon to keep them easy to use but that applies to all clip boots.
I needed to go to just 3 clips anyway as my bad back won't let me bend far enough for a fourth clip over the toes.

I am still happy to recommend them. And I have no connection to the company either - just a satisfied customer.

I bought a pair of the Forma boots but they're not as protective as I'd hoped. I think I will up my budget. Now looking at the alpinestars toucan, tcx x-desert and sidi adventure boots.

I am in need of a new pair of boots.

What did you not like about the Formas, what have you ended up going with?

I recently bought a pair of Forma adventure boots and for around £150 i think they are very very good in all respects ie value for money, quality and suitable for all types of riding(road, lanes ,rough stuff).

Highly recommended and not a salesman of Forma.

Not enough protection in the Formas for me. Even the shin plate was just a bendy rubbery plastic.

I am going to buy whichever has the most protection out of the Sidi Adventure Goretex, Alpinestars Toucan, and TCX X-Desert. I suspect it will be the Sidis, but I want to see them all in the flesh to compare with my own eyes, and try them on before buying. I have wasted too much money returning things that didn't fit or weren't as expected. On that note, sports bike shop now provide free returns (and have been price matching for a while).

Ive made a decision.

Alpinstars Scout at £184.

I hope they will strike the balance of protection/cost/longevity.

If money was not a problem, it would have been the Alpinstars Toucan.
The Toucans are £100 more though
